PHMEG promotes various Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities. These include the members forum (insert hyperlink) on this website for sharing learning from outbreaks and incidents, and teaching materials. PHMEG promotes study days in London and outside it as well as the annual 5 Nations Health Protection Conference. These are open to all with an interest in health protection, but members are charged reduced rates. It also promotes an online CPD facility free to members of all grades.
This takes place every year in one of the 5 nations. It is intended as a forum to meet those working in health protection throughout the UK and Eire in a relaxed environment. This is THE place to exchange ideas, debate hot topics and promote colleagues' research activities with opportunities to present oral papers and poster displays.
Each study day usually has two main topics; one on a communicable disease or environmental contamination issue of current interest and one on matters of a more political nature such as consideration of the health protection function in the light of the creation of Public Health England.
